Looking for a compassionate and experienced shadow teacher to support an 8-year-old girl in Kochi, Kerala.

We’re seeking someone with a background in Psychology, Special Education, Social Work (MSW), or a related field. Experience working with children on the autism spectrum and/or with ADHD is preferred. The ideal candidate is patient, encouraging, and understands how to create a supportive learning environment tailored to her needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Classroom Support

    • Provide consistent, individualized assistance to the 8-year-old student throughout the school day.

    • Help the student follow the classroom routine and stay engaged during lessons and activities.

    • Support the child with academic tasks such as reading, writing, math, and other subject areas, adapting material where needed.

    • Simplify or explain teacher instructions to improve comprehension.

    • Assist with transitions between tasks, classroom changes, or activities that might cause stress or confusion.

    • Encourage the child to participate in class discussions, group activities, and school events.

    2. Behavior Management and Emotional Support

    • Monitor and guide the student's behavior using positive reinforcement techniques.

    • Help the child regulate emotions, manage frustration, and cope with anxiety or sensory sensitivities.

    • Use strategies such as visual schedules, timers, or calming techniques to support self-regulation.

    • Redirect inappropriate behavior in a gentle and consistent manner, aligned with the teacher’s behavior plan.

    3. Promoting Independence

    • Encourage the student to complete tasks independently when appropriate, gradually reducing support over time.

    • Teach problem-solving skills and strategies to help the child make independent decisions.

    • Avoid over-assistance, allowing the student to experience success and build confidence.

    4. Social Integration

    • Support the child in interacting positively with peers during group work, playtime, and collaborative learning.

    • Guide social interactions, model appropriate communication, and help resolve minor conflicts.

    • Foster inclusion in classroom and extracurricular activities to reduce social isolation.

    5. Collaboration and Communication

    • Work closely with the classroom teacher to plan accommodations and adjustments to lessons or assignments.

    • Communicate regularly with school staff, therapists, and parents regarding the child’s progress, strengths, and areas of concern.

    • Participate in meetings or consultations with special educators, psychologists, or learning support teams.

    • Maintain written records or logs of observations, behavior patterns, and interventions used.

    6. Adaptation and Resource Preparation

    • Create or modify learning materials to suit the child’s level and learning style.

    • Prepare visual aids, task breakdowns, or hands-on activities to reinforce learning.

    • Organize tools like sensory kits, timers, or focus aids to support classroom participation.
